Victim Reveals Modus Operandi of Caretaker at Pati Islamic Boarding School
A victim of misconduct by a caretaker at an Islamic boarding school (ponpes) in Pati has spoken out about the pattern of abuse they experienced. In their statement, the victim recounted their three years at the boarding school, initially not suspecting the behavior of the individual known as Kyai Ashari. The victim noted that the caretaker did not formally teach, but lived at the boarding school and gave sermons every Friday.
They revealed that physical contact started gradually, from massages to kisses on the cheek, which were described as commonplace in certain circles within the boarding school. The caretaker also frequently invited the victim on pilgrimages and asked to share a bed in the same room, though it was said not to escalate to intimate relations. The victim explained that the caretaker deceived them by claiming these actions were orders from a Sufi master or teachings from Egypt to 'cure diseases of the heart.'
Furthermore, the victim's legal representative stated that the caretaker later demanded sexual acts, including asking the victim to swallow semen. The perpetrator claimed this was for the victim to be 'accepted and recognized' by the Prophet, the community, and the Sufi master. The victim's father emphasized that the caretaker justified his actions by invoking orders from a Sufi master from Egypt. The case is currently under legal proceedings.
