US Threatens Tougher Strikes Against Iran If Deal Rejected
U.S. President Donald Trump issued a statement affirming Washington's readiness to launch more brutal attacks if Iran refuses to sign the proposed deal. In a Truth Social post on Thursday (5/7/2026), Trump stated, "Just like we beat them today, we will destroy them much harder and more ruthlessly in the future if they don’t sign that deal immediately."
Trump also claimed that a U.S. Navy missile destroyer successfully neutralized an Iranian drone attack, describing the drones as "burning up in the air" before crashing into the sea. While acknowledging a ceasefire is still in effect, he accused Tehran of "playing games" with Washington during the tough negotiations.
Tensions escalated after retaliatory strikes occurred on Thursday, as Iran reviewed the U.S. proposal regarding reopening the Strait of Hormuz and halting the conflict. Previously, on February 28, the U.S. and Israel struck targets in Iran, followed by a two-week ceasefire on April 7. Talks in Islamabad reached a deadlock, prompting Trump to extend the suspension of military operations to allow for a final proposal. Meanwhile, Trump also launched "Project Freedom" to assist ships in the Strait of Hormuz but temporarily halted it for peace efforts.
