UIN Ar-Raniry Poised to Pioneer KHAS Zones in Aceh's Higher Education Institutions
Banda Aceh - Ar-Raniry State Islamic University (UIN) in Banda Aceh is strengthening its position as a leading sharia-based university by preparing to pioneer the implementation of Halal, Safe, and Healthy Culinary Zones (Zona KHAS) in Aceh's higher education environment. This commitment was affirmed during a meeting to accelerate KHAS Zone implementation in the Rector's Meeting Room on Monday (13/4/2026).
Rector of UIN Ar-Raniry, Prof. Dr. Mujiburrahman, M.Ag., stated that the designation of the campus as a KHAS Zone development site is a strategic step in building a halal ecosystem within the academic environment. "This is not just a program, but part of strengthening UIN Ar-Raniry's identity as an Islamic-based campus integrated with sharia economic practices," he said. Implementation will focus on campus canteens and strategic areas, with considerations for feasibility, cleanliness, and ease of access.
The Executive Director of the Aceh Regional Sharia Economy and Finance Committee (KDEKS), Prof. Syahrizal Abbas, assessed that UIN Ar-Raniry has significant potential to become a model for KHAS Zone development in Aceh, supported by academic strengths and study programs related to the halal industry. The representative of Bank Indonesia Aceh, M. Ilham Wiratama, added that KHAS Zones can serve as a living laboratory for developing student research, innovation, and transaction digitization.
The declaration of commitment to develop KHAS Zones is scheduled to take place as part of the Road to Aceh Sharia Economy Festival series in late April 2026, involving various parties including the Banda Aceh City Health Office and the Aceh Province Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency.
