Two Hajj Minister's Kids Resign from Expert Staff Positions After Nepotism Allegations Surface
BANDA ACEH – Two children of Hajj and Umrah Minister Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, Barbarossa Muhammad Farros and Gibran Muhammad Fawwaz, have officially resigned from their expert staff positions at the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. The decision came after their appointments drew public criticism over alleged nepotism.
Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak said their resignation letters were received on Monday (26/10/2026). He stressed that this move was made to safeguard the ministry's integrity, respond to the public uproar, and ensure the ministry remains free from unethical practices.
Dahnil explained that their initial involvement began during the formation of the Hajj Organizing Agency (BP Haji) at the end of October 2024, when the institution was short on human resources. Both of them helped voluntarily without pay, as at that time only the Minister and Deputy Minister were available. Minister Irfan Yusuf had also previously mentioned that his children, along with some santri, assisted in setting up BP Haji for three to four months on a volunteer basis.

Hopefully this becomes a lesson for other officials. Nepotism is a chronic disease in this country, even if it's claimed to be voluntary it still makes the public suspicious.
