The Quiet Work of Jampidsus Kuntadi: Busting Corruptors, Restoring Public Trust
The Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the Attorney General's Office, Kuntadi, has been showing progressive performance even though he rarely appears in the media. The Executive Director of Indonesia Political Review, Iwan Setiawan, reckons Kuntadi isn't afraid to go after big-time criminals and has saved trillions of rupiah in state losses in less than three months on the job.
Some of the cases he's handled include alleged tax manipulation at PT Toba Pulp Lestari with state losses up to Rp2 trillion, suspected nickel corruption at PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama which managed to recover Rp4.4 trillion in state losses, and alleged corruption in the governance of PT Minyak dan Gas Bumi Kota Bekasi with losses reaching Rp2 trillion.
Iwan stressed that Kuntadi's approach prioritizes thoroughness and a systematic process, not sensation. He also brushed off accusations that Kuntadi is part of a certain regime and suspects that those issues are deliberately stirred up to weaken the performance of Jampidsus, which is known for being tough on corruptors.
