Talk of Sex Toys in Women’s Prisons, MUI Confirms It’s Haram
Indonesia’s Ulema Council (MUI), through its Fatwa Commission, has made it clear that using sex toys is forbidden in Islam. This statement came as a response to the idea of providing sexual aids for inmates in prisons, which was floated by Willy Aditya, head of the House of Representatives’ Commission XIII.
The Deputy Secretary of MUI’s Fatwa Commission, KH Abdul Muiz Ali, said that channeling biological urges with a sex toy is something sharia strictly prohibits. “Channeling biological urges through sexual aids or sex toys falls under forbidden acts. It is haram,” he stated, as quoted from MUI’s website, Sunday (4/10).
Islam offers two proper ways to deal with sexual urges: through a valid marriage, or, for those who aren't able to marry yet, by fasting to keep oneself in check. MUI expressed regret that such a notion was thrown out into the public by a state official and urged that the proposal should not be pursued.
Earlier, Willy Aditya had suggested providing family booths and sex toys for inmates during a discussion on the corrections system on Wednesday (30/9), arguing it would meet their biological needs as part of the reintegration process.
