Syria sees first government reshuffle since al-Assad's ouster
Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa just reshuffled Syria's government-first change since Assad was ousted. Key moves: replaced his brother (who faced nepotism claims) as head of presidential office, swapped several ministers and governors, including in oil-rich Deir Az Zor. No official reason given, but critics had slammed earlier appointments as all "close friends" and protests over poor governance/economy have been rising. Also, trials of Assad-era officials are finally starting, like his cousin Atef Najib charged over crackdown in 2011. Assad and brother Maher charged in absentia for killings, torture, extortion, drug trafficking.
