Steering Clear of Tyrannical Rulers and Bootlicking Scholars
The Prophet ﷺ warned that leaders who don't bother seriously taking care of the Muslim community won't enter paradise with them (narrated by Muslim). Scholars are entrusted with the message as long as they don't cozy up to rulers or get lost in worldly pursuits; if they do that, they're seen as betraying the trust (narrated by al-Hakim).
A few hadiths also stress the prohibition of going to unjust rulers, condoning falsehoods, or helping with their oppression. Someone who keeps hanging around a ruler's doorstep risks falling into trials and drifting away from Allah (narrated by Ahmad and Baihaqi).
The Prophet ﷺ also mentioned that the most hated Quran reciters by Allah are those who flock to rulers (narrated by Ibn Majah). Taking a firm stand against tyrannical rulers and backing sellout scholars was put forward as a caution for the Muslim ummah.
