Staying Away from Tyrannical Rulers and Bootlicker Scholars
Rasulullah ﷺ warned about the dangers of leaders who don’t genuinely take care of their people. In a hadith narrated by Muslim, he said, "There is no leader who handles the affairs of the Muslims, then doesn’t go all in and do it properly, except that he won't enter Paradise with them."
He also warned against backing tyrannical rulers. In a hadith recorded by Tirmidzi, Nasa'i, and Al-Hakim, Rasulullah ﷺ made it clear that those who justify lies and aid a ruler’s oppression aren’t part of his community. On the flip side, steering clear of those types is a mark of the saved group.
Scholars who cozy up to rulers and get lost in worldly stuff are among those to worry about. From Abu Hurairah, Rasulullah ﷺ said, "Indeed, the Qurra' most detested by Allah are those who visit rulers" (reported by Ibnu Majah). Sayidina Anas ra also emphasized that scholars are trustees of the prophets as long as they don’t mingle with rulers and worldly pursuits.
