Saiful Mujani Questioned by Metro Jaya Police Over Incitement Case: I'm Worried Critical Voices Will Be Silenced
Political analyst Saiful Mujani complied with a summons from Metro Jaya Police investigators as a reported witness in an alleged incitement case on Thursday (6/4). He was accompanied by lawyer Todung Mulya Lubis, political analyst Ray Rangkuti, and YLBHI chairman Muhammad Isnur. Saiful said he’s ready to provide clarification so the issue can be cleared up.
He emphasized he never intended to dodge the legal process and showed up because his statement was needed. Saiful admitted he’s worried critical voices might get silenced, since that touches on academic freedom, freedom of speech, and room for criticism in a democracy.
This case is being investigated by Metro Jaya Police based on four complaints that deemed Saiful's remarks at a Halal Bihalal gathering on March 31, 2026, contained incitement elements under Article 246 of the Criminal Code. Investigators are still digging deeper to determine whether there are any criminal elements in it.
