Sahroni Gets Blasted for Telling MUI to Focus on Halal Certification Instead of Meddling in Concerts
House of Representatives Commission III Deputy Chairman Ahmad Sahroni asked the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to focus on halal certification and stop messing with concerts. He said this on his personal Instagram account on Monday (12/10/2026), though the exact reason isn't clear yet. "MUI should focus on halal certificate work, don't meddle in concerts. There's plenty of internal stuff at MUI that needs doing," Sahroni wrote.
Sahroni's statement came amid MUI's opposition to Andrea Bocelli’s concert, scheduled for Borobudur Temple and Jakarta in October–November 2026. MUI voiced its objection after the government canceled the show by the musician, who they see as backing Israel. "The Andrea Bocelli concert must be canceled to uphold our stance on humanity," said MUI Foreign Relations Head Prof. Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim.
MUI Central Deputy Chairman KH Muhammad Cholil Nafis hit back at Sahroni, stressing that MUI is a coalition of Islamic groups, not a government body. "So Sahroni is a Council member? Jeez… he thinks MUI is just some government agency. It's a bunch of organizations that love this country through promoting good and preventing evil," he insisted.
