Questions About Pre-Islamic History That Are Holding Me Back
Assalamu alaikum everyone. I’m not Muslim yet, but I’m really close to taking that step, and I’d appreciate some honest help with a few things that are making me pause. These aren’t about Islam directly, but about the history it builds on, which I understand Islam accepts as true. I’m hoping someone can clarify from an Islamic perspective so I can move past these doubts, insha’Allah. First, the story of Noah’s ark. Unless the Islamic account differs, the idea of all animals on one boat and then spreading across the world afterward just doesn’t sit right with me. I struggle to see how that’s possible. Second, Moses and the desert wandering. From what I’ve read, there’s no evidence outside Abrahamic faiths for it-nothing found in the desert, and the numbers seem impossible logistically. Egyptians kept detailed records, yet no mention of those events. It feels like it might just be a Jewish myth. Third, the origins of Yahweh. Archaeological findings suggest Yahweh started as a Canaanite idol, a child of the god El and his wife, and only later evolved into the monotheistic God. Could that really connect to Allah? I find this confusing. These three points feel like big obstacles for me. I see so much beauty in Islam itself, but if the backstory is shaky, it casts doubt on the whole foundation. Any help untangling this would mean a lot. JazakAllah khair.
