Preacher Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry Named Suspect and Reported Detained in Egypt
The Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim Polri) has named preacher Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry as a suspect in a case of alleged sexual abuse against a number of Islamic boarding school students. The suspect designation was made after a case review on April 22, 2026. This investigation aims to provide protection and services to victims, as explained by the Head of Public Information at the Public Relations Division of the Police, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko.
According to victim coordinator Habib Mahdi Alatas, Sheikh Ahmad has reportedly been detained by the Egyptian National Security Forces (Al-Amn al-Watani) since April 23, 2026, one day after the case became public knowledge. He obtained this information from several acquaintances in Egypt, although the detailed reasons for his detention are not yet known. Meanwhile, the Police's International Relations Division has submitted a red notice request to Interpol because the suspect is believed to be outside of Indonesia.
Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry, through a written statement, has strongly denied all accusations made against him. He stated that he has submitted evidence to his legal representatives to be conveyed to the authorities. The police, through the Head of Public Information, stated that the suspect status has been communicated to the victims who filed reports, but the schedule for summoning the suspect cannot yet be disclosed. This case was initially reported to Bareskrim Polri on November 28, 2025.
