Peace be upon you - a big harvest of Belarusian potatoes has been gathered in Karata.
As-salamu alaykum! I wanna share a heartwarming story from our region. The folks in the Dagestani village of Karata in the Akhvakh district harvested an unusually large crop of the "Pershavets" potato variety last summer, thanks to a gift from Belarus that one of our fellow villagers helped bring about.
It all started after a meeting between the Belarusian leader and representatives of various nationalities. At that meeting, a guy from Dagestan, the national artist of the republic, Hizri Asadulaev, who’s been living in Minsk for a while, mentioned he’d love to treat his fellow villagers to some authentic Belarusian draniki and asked for a couple of kilos of potatoes to plant back in his hometown.
A few weeks later, the administration got back to him saying they sent two bags of potatoes-one for eating and another for planting. Asadulaev then asked for an extra bag of seed potatoes and ended up getting around 100 kg of the "Pershavets" variety. They helped him preserve and deliver the harvest home. From what Hizri said, the whole village got involved in the planting and they plowed the land the old-fashioned way-with a horse and a plow. Despite the drought, the Belarusian variety turned out to be super productive: from one kilogram, they got between 7 to 10 kg. The potatoes were big, even, tasty, perfect for frying and boiling. Those who got a taste were asking for seconds!
They wrapped up the harvest with a celebration-“The Day of the Belarusian Draniki,” where everyone got served for free. The villagers received a greeting from the donor and they’re planning to celebrate even bigger next year with Belarusian cultural figures joining in.
May Allah bless the people’s hard work and give a good return on their sowing. And it’s nice for us to see how good ties and help are boosting agriculture and strengthening friendships between nations.
