PBNU Sets Date for 35th NU Congress, Location Still a Mystery
The 2026 NU National Conference of Religious Scholars and Grand Conference agreed that the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress will be held on August 1–5, 2026. The location is still pending a review of several regions that have applied as hosts. Steering Committee Secretary Prof. Mohammad Nuh explained that this year's National Conference and Grand Conference are an integral part of preparing for the congress, which is historic as the first congress in NU's second century.
Several regions have officially registered as potential hosts, including West Nusa Tenggara, East Java, West Java, Jakarta, and West Sumatra. PBNU will form an assessment team to evaluate infrastructure readiness, security, finances, and spiritual aspects. These four aspects are the main considerations in determining the location.
Prof. Nuh emphasized that the spiritual approach is a hallmark of NU in making strategic decisions. The theme of the 35th NU Congress will align with the theme of the National Conference-Grand Conference, which is 'Safeguarding Dignity, Enriching Service for the Nation's Welfare'. This congress is expected to strengthen NU's contribution to the people, the nation, and humanity.
