Only Anies Has the Time to Keep Up with Jokowi's Political Safari
Political analyst Hendri Satrio reckons the 7th Indonesian President Joko Widodo's political safari is all about maintaining his family's political clout, especially to make sure Gibran Rakabuming Raka stays on as vice president. He thinks Jokowi’s moves are pretty hard for other figures like President Prabowo, Zulkifli Hasan, or Bahlil Lahadalia to match, since they're still tied up with government stuff. "So maybe Jokowi's goal in touring Indonesia, besides promoting PSI, is also to keep Gibran in the running as Prabowo's vice president," he said.
Hendri pointed out Anies Baswedan as someone who's got more free time to respond to this kind of maneuvering. "Anies Baswedan has a lot of time," he noted. He questioned whether Anies would also start touring Indonesia himself.
Meanwhile, Prabowo is seen as needing to focus on delivering his political promises. "Prabowo has no choice but to concentrate on keeping his political promises so he stays safe, so the people will vote for him again," Hendri concluded.
