One of the Kemayoran Fire Victims Was a BAZNAS Beneficiary, the Agency Acts Fast to Provide Aid
The National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) deployed its BAZNAS Disaster Response Team (BTB), BAZNAS Healthy Home, and a public kitchen to help with evacuation and meet the basic needs of fire victims in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. The emergency response started just hours after the fire on Monday night (1/6/2026) on Jalan Haji Ung. BAZNAS’s distribution head, Idy Muzayyad, said assistance was distributed from the morning after the incident.
Amid the handling efforts, BAZNAS is mourning because one of the victims was Risma, a barista at ZCoffee who was part of a BAZNAS empowerment program. "We are deeply saddened, because one of the victims is Mbak Risma, a barista at ZCoffee nurtured by BAZNAS," Idy said. This loss is a profound sorrow for the BAZNAS family, given the close social ties in the program.
The BAZNAS Healthy Home team provided health services and treatment, especially for children and the elderly affected by smoke or exhaustion. Ready-to-eat meals were also on standby to meet food needs during the emergency. Idy stressed the importance of synergy with various parties to speed up the recovery of residents.
As of now, victim data collection is ongoing, while residents are taking shelter at provided locations. This incident highlights the importance of disaster preparedness in dense settlements and the role of philanthropic institutions in protecting survivors.
