Observer: The Book “Islam ala Prabowo” Could Become a Non-Military Weapon
The book Islam ala Prabowo: How Prabowo Subianto Practices Islamic Teachings is back in the spotlight. Intelligence and geopolitics observer Amir Hamzah warns that the controversy around the book shouldn’t just be seen as a debate over its title or content, but needs to be looked at closely because it could turn into a tool for non-military warfare. He reckons President Prabowo’s leadership faces complex challenges that involve battles through information, public opinion, and perception shaping.
The book wasn’t written by Prabowo Subianto himself-it was put together by Abdur Rahim Hasan, Rikal Dikri, and Mush’ab Muqoddas. Published by Atmosphere Publishing House in April 2025, it was launched at the 2025 BAZNAS National Coordination Meeting. Several parties have offered clarifications, including Coordinating Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra, who stressed he was merely a resource person and had no say in the title or funding.
Amir cautions that narratives carrying the head of state’s name shouldn’t be turned into a trap or used to create a false perception of the President. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining ties with Islamic organizations like NU and Muhammadiyah through real policies, not just symbols. The government also needs a solid system to vet information amid the shifting landscape of non-military warfare.
From a geopolitical angle, Amir highlights economic and diplomatic approaches that could strengthen relations with Muslims, like the growing Indonesia-Russia halal cooperation. He sees welfare-based approaches-through halal economy, education, and trade-as a model worth referencing without changing Indonesia’s character as a plural, nationalistic country.
