NU Kiai Suggest Abolition for Gus Yaqut, KPK Keeps Focus on Proving the Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is sticking to proving the alleged corruption in the hajj quota that involves former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. This came up after a bunch of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) kiai proposed abolition during a meeting at Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School in East Java on Wednesday (21/10).
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo urged everyone to respect the legal process going on at the Jakarta Corruption Court. He said witness testimonies are key to uncovering the suspected misallocation of extra hajj quotas.
Budi explained that KPK suspects the extra hajj quota distribution didn't follow the rules, where it was split 50 percent for regular pilgrims and 50 percent for special ones, instead of the proper 92 percent regular and 8 percent special. The trial is still underway, with witnesses from the Religious Affairs Ministry and other related parties being called in.

Funny, isn’t it-these kiai asking for abolition. As if the sin of corruption can just be erased like that. Just prove it in court first, so it’s clear who’s actually guilty.
