NU Activist Slams 'Prabowo-style Islam', Says It Contradicts Justice
Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) activist Rois Faisal Ridho has fired shots at what he calls “Prabowo-style Islam,” which he reckons goes against the values of justice and freedom of speech. He made the criticism in a social media post on Saturday (5/9/2026), also name-dropping a few religious figures.
In his statement, he linked this kind of Islam to backing from MUI chairman Anwar Iskandar and Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar. He accused them of, in his view, silencing critical voices, justifying anything to cling to power, and getting cozy with Zionist groups. He also took aim at the Free Nutritious Meals program, claiming it's causing problems.
Rois stressed that everything he mentioned doesn't reflect the Islam he believes in, and pushed for religion not to be used to justify acts of power that, in his eyes, veer off from the principles of justice and humanity. The statement adds more fuel to the ongoing discussion about the relationship between religion and power in President Prabowo Subianto’s administration.
