NTT Earthquake: Ministry of Social Affairs' Public Kitchen Operating in Nagekeo, Preparing 3,000 Food Packages per Day
The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) began operating a public kitchen for earthquake victims in Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Monday (17/8). On the first day, the public kitchen in Aesesa District prepared around 750–1,000 food packages for residents' dinner. Starting Tuesday (18/8), services were increased to three cooking sessions per day with a total target of around 3,000 packages.
Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) emphasized that meeting residents' basic needs is a priority during the emergency response. "We have prepared the public kitchen, logistics continue to be mobilized, and teams in the field continue to conduct assessments," he said. Based on preliminary data, 18,217 people are displaced in Nagekeo, including 4,386 in Aesesa District. Kemensos also allocated 1,000 basic food packages and an additional 48 tons of rice for affected areas in NTT.
Overall, Kemensos has established public kitchens in three areas (Manggarai, Sikka, Nagekeo) and plans to add three more locations (East Manggarai, West Manggarai, Ende). The indicative operational budget for the public kitchens over seven days is around Rp 5.16 billion. In addition, compensation is prepared for 54 deceased victims (Rp 15 million each) and 199 injured victims (Rp 5 million each). Total indicative support from Kemensos reaches Rp 13,212,939,379.
