NTB Governor Wins Santri of The Year 2026 in Leadership Category
West Nusa Tenggara Governor, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, snagged the Santri of The Year 2026 award in the Inspiring Santri category for Provincial Government Leadership. The award was handed over at the Nusantara IV Building of the Indonesian Parliament, Jakarta, Sunday (25/10).
This award from the Islam Nusantara Center (INC) recognizes figures with pesantren backgrounds who’ve contributed to leadership and national development. Iqbal, an alum of Pondok Pesantren Assalaam Solo, is seen as representing the role of pesantren alumni in government.
Santri of The Year 2026 was held as part of National Santri Day, in collaboration with Majelis Pesona and supported by the Indonesian Parliament. There are 20 award categories judged by a panel of experts, a jury board, and public input through INC's digital channels.
INC Director M. Aly Taufiq hopes this award will highlight santri role models and strengthen recognition of pesantren as pillars of human resource development in Indonesia.
