NTB Governor Speeds Up Desa Berdaya Program and Drought Management
West Nusa Tenggara Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal stressed the commitment "No one should be left behind" during his visit to several villages in Central Lombok. The NTB provincial government is pushing the Desa Berdaya Program to eradicate extreme poverty with an allocation of almost Rp3 billion for around 350 households in Mangkung and Sengkol villages. The assistance is provided as business capital tailored to residents' potential, like trading, food processing, and poultry farming.
Besides economic empowerment, the provincial government together with BNPB is getting ready to tackle drought by assessing drilled wells in South Lombok and South Sumbawa. Water tanker fleets are also on standby for distributing clean water. In infrastructure, repairs to check dams, bridge heightening, and levee construction are being done to reduce flood risk.
Sengkol Village Head said there’s support from the provincial government in the form of CSR worth Rp100 million for a mosque, revitalization of a traditional market worth Rp400 million, and Rp300 million for a layer chicken farming business managed by the Women Farmers Group. The rehabilitation of uninhabitable houses is also being sped up with a target of six units per week. As Mandalika MotoGP approaches, the community is committed to keeping security tight and hopes that recruitment by ITDC and MGPA is done openly for local residents.
