My Journey to Islam

Salam alaikum everyone. I just wanted to share my story with Islam today because I haven't really had anyone to talk to about it, and I think about it a lot-it reminds me of how great Allah is. So my dad is Muslim but my mom isn't. I didn't grow up with any religion, honestly. I was never taught anything about it. The only things I did were not eat pork and sometimes talk about Allah (or God, as I used to say) with my dad. I had basically no Muslims around me. I was an atheist when I started middle school because I'm really into science-evolution and stuff-and I thought the idea of a creator was dumb. Then when I was 13 or 14, for some reason I don't even know, I started calling myself Muslim. I don't even remember exactly when I took my shahada, but one day something just clicked. I started learning about Islam on my own and fasting in Ramadan in my last year of high school. I also started praying a little, using YouTube tutorials, while still making lots of mistakes. It took me a while to really get my five daily prayers into my routine, but alhamdulillah, now I'm consistent, and I'm forever grateful that Allah guided me to this noble act. Over time, I learned more and more about my religion, and my faith got stronger, alhamdulillah. I started going to the mosque more often too. Now I see the world from a totally different perspective, and I feel better than ever in my heart. I'm at peace, and everything that happens makes sense. I struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts in high school, and I think that brought me closer to my Creator. This religion grew on me and became more mature and beautiful, like a garden, and I hope it continues like this, inshaAllah. I'm almost 20 now, and I still have so much to learn and experience. I still have fears, doubts, and problems, but now I have a pillar to lean on. Sometimes I ask myself, "Why me? Out of all people, why did Allah put Islam in my heart?" And I get emotional because no matter what I do, I can never repay the blessing He gave me. And also because I could have died in my previous state and never been guided. I think the moral of this story is that anything can happen to someone, even if they seem far from it. Also, science and religion can coexist in a person. With Islam, I actually love science even more because it makes me reflect on creation. It shows how generous our Creator is and how He can make things easy for absolutely everyone. My words can't fully describe everything I feel about this and all the blessings from our Creator, but I hope I did my best to share it.
