Ministry of Religious Affairs Holds 100,000 Khataman Alquran, Pushes for National Transformation
The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, through the Directorate of Islamic Religious Information, has launched a movement for 100,000 Khataman Alquran to welcome the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1448 H. The event isn't just ceremonial but a moment to encourage personal, family, community, and national transformation by applying the values of the Alquran.
Director of Islamic Religious Information, Muchlis M. Hanafi, said this movement is part of Peaceful Muharam 1448 H. He emphasized the importance of bringing the Alquran as a collective spiritual energy amid global uncertainty, technological disruption, climate change, and social polarization in the digital space.
The movement, driven by Islamic Religious Counselors across Indonesia, surpassed its initial target, with over 111,031 khataman Alquran recorded, carried out together with community groups. Muhammad Hanafi invited the public to continue the khataman into practicing the values of the Alquran in daily life, like honesty, responsibility, brotherhood, and compassion.
The peak event took place at the Auditorium of the Islamic Religious Literacy Center, Ciawi, Bogor, attended directly by 200 Islamic Religious Counselors and thousands of online participants. Muchlis stressed that the Alquran is not only a recitation of worship value but also a guide for life that provides direction for humans in facing the dynamics of the times, as well as strengthening national unity and spiritual resilience.
