Mina's 7,838 Toilet Units, Ready to Serve Millions of Pilgrims at the Peak of Hajj 2026
Saudi Arabia has enhanced sanitation facilities for Hajj pilgrims in Mina by completing 79 two-story vertical toilet complexes. The total number of toilets now reaches 7,838 units, prepared to serve millions of pilgrims during the peak of Hajj 2026. This vertical construction overcomes land limitations in the densely populated area. Toilet capacity has increased fourfold compared to before, cutting pilgrim wait times by up to 75%.
The Kidana Development Company (the executive body of the Royal Commission for Makkah City) completed the second phase of this project ahead of Hajj 2026. In the North Al-Shuaib area of Mina, 18 new toilet complexes were added, complementing the 61 complexes built previously. The total now stands at 79 complexes.
The vertical strategy addresses land constraint issues. In addition to increasing capacity, management also expanded green spaces, improved rest areas along pedestrian walkways, and enhanced the drinking water system. At Jamarat Bridge, 400 new-technology mist fan units were installed to cool up to 180,000 pilgrims per hour during the stoning ritual.
