Mecca, Jeddah, and Taif Briefly Under Emergency Status, Here’s Saudi’s Official Advisory
Saudi authorities issued an emergency alert for the Mecca, Jeddah, and Taif areas on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. The warning went out through the National Early Warning Platform, urging residents to stay calm and head straight to safe spots inside buildings, staying away from windows, balconies, and rooftops.
For people who were outdoors, officials asked them to get into the nearest building or take cover behind sturdy barriers. Drivers were told to pull over in safe places, keep clear of bridges and tall buildings, and avoid crowds.
This alert came amid rising tensions with the Houthi group in Yemen, following missile and drone attacks on Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Taif the day before. By Tuesday, Saudi Civil Defense announced the emergency situation was over.
