Mass Poisoning from Free Nutritious Meals Program in Sidoarjo, East Java MUI Urges Police to Criminally Investigate SPPG Managers
The East Java branch of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) is pushing the police to thoroughly investigate and take firm action on the mass poisoning case linked to the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program in Sidoarjo. The MUI thinks administrative sanctions like freezing the operations of the Nutrition Service Fulfillment Unit (SPPG) kitchen just aren't enough if there's evidence of fatal negligence or criminal acts.
East Java MUI General Secretary KH Hasan Ubaidillah stressed that administrative penalties only sort out management issues, while the rights of hundreds of victims who suffered serious health impacts still need proper legal justice. He urged the police to immediately launch a deep investigation and objective probe to figure out whether there was any intentional wrongdoing or carelessness by the kitchen managers in serving the food.
East Java MUI emphasized how crucial the legal process is to stop SPPG operators across East Java from acting recklessly, and to make sure all the food distributed meets hygiene standards, food safety rules, and halal requirements. They hope strict law enforcement will serve as a warning to MBG program executors so similar incidents harming children's health won't happen again.
