Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim Calls Jokowi, Expresses Solidarity Over Anak Krakatau Eruption and Forest Fires
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reached out to Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo by phone on Sunday (6/9/2026). Anwar conveyed Malaysia’s solidarity with the Indonesian people affected by the volcanic ash from the Anak Krakatau eruption and the forest and land fire disaster.
In a social media post, Anwar stressed that Malaysia and Indonesia aren’t just neighboring countries, but kindred nations tied by history, culture, and close brotherhood. He wrapped up his message hoping this bond keeps being nurtured for the well-being of both nations' people and regional security, while writing “Insya-Allah”.
President Jokowi responded by thanking Anwar for his concern and prayers, and mentioned that the relationship between the two countries goes beyond just regular diplomatic ties. Both leaders prayed for each other so that this friendship keeps bringing goodness to the people of Indonesia and Malaysia.
