M7.7 Earthquake in the Philippines: 27 Homes and 2 Churches Damaged in North Sulawesi
BNPB reported that the tsunami early warning due to the M7.7 quake in Mindanao, Philippines, has ended. As of Monday (6/8/2026) at 12:30 PM WIB, 27 families were affected and dozens of homes were damaged in North Sulawesi. The earthquake happened at 06:37 AM WIB at sea, at a depth of 47 km, with shaking felt in Sangihe, Talaud, Manado, and North Minahasa.
Based on initial BPBD data, 27 houses suffered damage. In addition, two churches, one school, one teacher's housing unit, and one GMIM 76 building in North Minahasa were also damaged. The data is still preliminary and will be updated.
Residents in Sangihe briefly panicked feeling strong shaking for 3–4 seconds. In Talaud, Manado, and North Minahasa, weak to moderate tremors were felt for 2–4 seconds. BNPB and BPBD continue to coordinate on emergency response, data collection, and aftershock monitoring.
BNPB urges the public to stay calm, be alert for aftershocks, and only refer to official info from BMKG, BNPB, BPBD, and local governments.
