KPK: Brother of Former BNPB Chief Allegedly Used Disaster Funds to Buy Rp30.98 Billion in Stocks
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has uncovered alleged misuse of BNPB’s Ready-to-Use Funds (DSP) for personal gain, including a stock purchase worth Rp30.98 billion by a company linked to Bima Setiawan, the younger brother of former BNPB chief Suharyanto. Five people have been named suspects: Bima Setiawan (BMS), Richard Erlangga (RIC) as an expert staffer, Gabriel Purwaka Sigit (GPS) as the commitment-making officer, plus Syifa Nrika Ghifarin (SNG) and Gery Prasetiawan (GER) from the private sector.
In this case, KPK suspects there was a conflict of interest in the procurement of goods and services under DSP for the 2024–2026 period, worth around Rp148 billion, involving companies affiliated with Bima. In the second cluster, Richard allegedly received Rp2.38 billion in kickbacks from Gery, while Gabriel is suspected of getting cash, foreign currency, and gold from suppliers. KPK seized evidence worth roughly Rp5.47 billion during a sting operation.
The suspects are now being detained for an initial 20 days at the KPK detention center. They’re charged under articles in the Anti-Corruption Law and the Criminal Code related to bribery and conflicts of interest.
