Khalid Basalamah Once Again Questioned by KPK Regarding Alleged Hajj Quota Corruption Case
Preacher Khalid Basalamah is once again scheduled to undergo questioning by investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as a witness on Thursday, April 23, 2026, related to the alleged corruption case in the management of the 2023-2024 Hajj quota. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that Khalid, as the owner of PT Zahra Oto Mandiri (Uhud Tour) which operates in the field of special Hajj organization, is expected to cooperate in fulfilling the investigator's summons. Previously, Khalid had been questioned in September 2025 and had once failed to fulfill a summons for other reasons.
In this case, the KPK has named several suspects, including former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, his former special staff Ishfah Abidal Aziz (Gus Alex), and two suspects from the private sector: Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour) Ismail Adham and Commissioner of PT Raudah Eksati Utama Asrul Azis Taba. They are suspected of being involved in corruption practices related to the management of the Hajj quota.
This case originated from the policy of managing additional Hajj quotas which attracted attention, with allegations of practices to expedite departure outside the queue and requests for certain fees from special Hajj organizers. The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) recorded potential state losses reaching hundreds of billions of rupiah. The KPK emphasized that it will continue to thoroughly investigate this case in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
