Israeli Strikes Damage Church and Christian School in Lebanon
Israeli forces damaged the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George and the Sacred Heart Sisters Christian School in Lebanon’s Nabatieh province on Friday (29/5/2026). The attack happened even though an extended 45-day ceasefire is still in effect. Lebanon’s National News Agency reported significant damage to the church and its surroundings, as well as parts of the school building.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned Israel’s ongoing strikes in Tyre and Nabatieh provinces as 'collective punishment' that violates international law, destroying places of worship and historic buildings. Since March 2, Israeli attacks have killed 3,355 people according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
The escalation grew after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on May 25 ordered an intensification of military operations in Lebanon. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has stepped up its resistance against Israeli forces.
