Islamic World's Call for Unity in Facing Threats Against Al-Aqsa Mosque
Three prominent Islamic organizations, MAPIM, MANAR, and SHURA, issued a joint statement on Thursday (May 14, 2026) condemning the serious threats against the Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound in Al-Quds (Jerusalem). The statement highlighted the closure of the area, raids by settlers, tunnel excavation activities, and open calls by several extremist officials to destroy the holy mosque. MAPIM President Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid stated that these actions are viewed as a systematic effort to erase the Islamic identity and history of the sacred site, and constitute a violation of international law and religious freedom.
The Chairman of MANAR, Datuk Seri Sheikh Ahmad Awang, expressed deep concern over the narrative of destroying Al-Aqsa and the calls to build a 'Third Temple' on its grounds, which he considers dangerous incitement that could trigger broader religious conflict. He also regarded the tunnel excavation activities beneath the compound as a systematic aggression undermining the mosque's structure.
The Chairman of SHURA, Dato’ Wira Sheikh Abdul Ghani Samsudin, stressed that the threats to Al-Aqsa have reached a critical stage and require tangible unity. Defending Al-Aqsa is declared as an obligation for all Muslims and advocates of justice. In their declaration, the three organizations urged OIC member states to take concrete steps, including convening an emergency session, applying diplomatic and economic pressure, and promoting international investigation and protection for Al-Aqsa Mosque.
