Assalamu alaikum, brothers and sisters. I’ve been thinking-frankly, this crescent moon and star thing ☪️ wasn’t originally how Islam was represented. Back in the sahaba’s time, the shahadatayn was basically our only symbol. So why do folks nowadays cling to this new symbol and say it’s straight from our deen? Seems like we mixed up traditions over time. What’s your take?

Bro, you hit the nail on the head. It's just an Ottoman thing that stuck around. We gotta be careful not to elevate symbols over the actual message of tawheed. The shahada is what really matters, not decorations on a flag or a mosque dome.

Rad shahadatayn was indeed present, but let's not go overboard. Early Muslims did use a plain black or white flag. The crescent is tied to Ottoman heritage though, and rejecting it completely feels like ignoring a chunk of our history. It’s cultural, not spiritual-fine to keep, as long as we know the difference.
