Interim Verdict in Gus Yaqut Hajj Quota Corruption Case Read Out Today
The panel of judges at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) at the Central Jakarta District Court will read out the interim verdict in the alleged corruption case involving the management of the hajj quota implicating former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, Thursday (27/8/2026). The hearing is scheduled for 10:40 WIB in the Prof. H.M. Hatta Ali courtroom. The interim verdict will determine whether the case proceeds to the evidentiary stage or is halted following the defendant's exception.
KPK public prosecutors have charged Gus Yaqut along with other parties with corruption in the management of the 2023–2024 hajj quota, alleging self-enrichment of USD 271,500. A total of 27 parties/corporations and 313 Special Hajj Organizers (PIHK) are said to have also benefited, with a total reaching IDR 478.17 billion. State losses are estimated at IDR 622.09 billion, among others from the difference between PIHK revenue and expenditure as well as fees for accelerating the filling of additional quotas.
Gus Yaqut's legal advisory team denies the charges. They consider the indictment does not concretely describe their client's active actions that caused benefits to other parties or state losses. The legal counsel also denies the receipt of USD 271,500 and questions the calculation of state losses, which is deemed to have an unclear causal link. They request the panel of judges to accept the exception and declare the indictment null and void.
