Head of SPPG Cirebon Removed After 395 People Fall Ill in Free Nutritious Meals Program
Cirebon City – The head of the Nutrition Service Fulfillment Unit (SPPG) Kalijaga 5 has been dismissed from their position after the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) found procedural violations in the kitchen management. The removal is linked to a suspected food poisoning incident involving the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program that affected 395 people.
Head of the Nutrition Service Fulfillment Office (KPPG) for Cirebon City, Yulian Septa Pratama, stated that the SPPG management ordered ingredients or ready-made food from partners and vendors, then reprocessed it. This practice violated BGN’s technical guidelines. The KPPG team and the BGN Deputy for Monitoring uncovered the violation while inspecting the kitchen, management, and operational governance.
This incident caused 395 people-consisting of kindergarten and elementary school students, teachers, and SPPG staff-to experience symptoms like dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea after eating a quail egg soup menu. They were treated at 10 hospitals, with the medical costs covered by the SPPG.
The BGN is still waiting for lab test results from the West Java provincial health laboratory to decide on further action. The SPPG head has been removed, but any additional sanctions will depend on those lab results.
