Hari Santri 2026 in Jember, Gus Fawait Highlights Key Programs for Santri and Islamic Boarding Schools
The whole series of events for National Santri Day (HSN) 2026 in Jember Regency officially wrapped up on Thursday night (22/10) at the Jember town square with communal dzikir and salawat prayers. Jember Regent Muhammad Fawait stressed his commitment to erasing the negative stigma around pesantren and giving fair attention to santri who played a big part in Indonesia's independence history.
Several strategic policies have already been put in place, like expanding the 2025–2029 regional scholarship with a special track for santri, incentives for cross-faith Quran teachers and mosque caretakers, and BPJS Employment coverage. Starting 2026, appreciation will also be given to heads of religious study groups.
In the public services sector, budget efficiencies from official vehicles have been rerouted to a free healthcare program for Jember ID card holders, plus a "Love Car" facility that gives poor patients a free ride home from the regional hospital on the house. Gus Fawait framed these programs as both a responsibility and motivation for the younger generation of NU and pesantren, and made clear that pesantren graduates can lead a region professionally.
