Gus Irfan Explains Bringing His Kids and Students on Board as Experts for the Haj Ministry
BANDA ACEH - Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf (Gus Irfan) talked about how his children and students first got involved in setting up the Haj Organizing Agency (BP Haji) before they were appointed as expert staff. Apparently, they pitched in voluntarily without pay for like 3 to 4 months when the agency didn't even have an office or proper staff yet.
Gus Irfan explained, this all happened right after he and vice minister Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak were sworn in back in late October 2024. With no facilities and no human resources, the students and his kids just jumped in to help lay the groundwork for BP Haji, which later evolved into the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
After that, some of them were appointed as expert staff based on what they were capable of, while the rest went back to the pesantren. Gus Irfan also said he didn't even use all the special staff and expert staff slots he was actually entitled to as a minister.
Beyond all this noise, he also pointed out the bigger issue of how short-staffed the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah really is.
