Gresik Industry Grows Rapidly, Coordinating Minister for PM Encourages Vocational School Graduates from Islamic Boarding Schools to Enter the Job Market
The Gresik Regency government is strengthening the link between vocational education, especially Islamic boarding school-based vocational high schools (SMK), and industry needs. This step aims to build a socio-economic ecosystem for Islamic boarding schools and improve human resources quality so that local communities can also enjoy economic growth. Coordinating Minister for PM A. Muhaimin Iskandar emphasized that industrial growth must go hand in hand with improving the welfare of surrounding communities, and Islamic boarding schools can become empowerment centers that connect education, the job market, MSMEs, and economic access.
The link and match program between 35 Islamic boarding school-based SMKs (out of a total of 62 SMKs in Gresik) and the industrial sector is directed at aligning graduate competencies, strengthening certification, and opening up job placement access. Cak Imin mentioned that Gresik has great social capital with 211 Islamic boarding schools and around 10,857 students whose potential needs to be connected with industrial strength.
Gresik Regent Fandi Akhmad Yani explained that the strengthening is carried out through the Regional Vocational Team and cooperation with Kadin, targeting the improvement of technical skills, foreign language proficiency, and talents of SMK graduates. The regency government is preparing budget support through the Manpower Office to increase the capacity of local workers, ensuring that incoming investments also open up job access and economic opportunities for the community.
