From the Church for the NU Congress, Collaboration of Three Sidoarjo Churches Becomes a Symbol of Tolerance
Support for the 35th NU Congress isn't just coming from Nahdliyin circles. Three churches in Sidoarjo City, namely GKJW, GPIB, and GKI, opened up space for their congregations to donate through LAZISNU PCNU Sidoarjo. The fundraising took place on Sunday (8/16) with donation boxes paraded from GKI to GPIB, then placed at GKJW.
GKJW Pastor Noven Rudy Nathaniel called this a form of trust and brotherhood between the Christian community and NU. He emphasized that tolerance needs to be realized in concrete actions. The congregation's enthusiasm was good; some had already donated via LAZISNU's account before the event. The closeness between GKJW and NU is also evident from the Gus Dur memorial room at the GKJW synod office.
LAZISNU PCNU Sidoarjo chairman, Dodi Dliya'uddin, appreciated the churches' openness. He hopes this collaboration will strengthen tolerance and become a bridge for harmonious social life. The donations are used for the congress service posts: 1,000 packed meals per day, coffee, traditional snacks, massages, health checks, and free medical treatment for participants, operating since August 27 at Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Tambakberas, Jombang.
The 35th NU Congress is scheduled for August 27–31, 2026, in Jombang. The donation target is Rp300 million, but Dodi stressed that the most important thing is the creation of a space for togetherness among religious communities. He hopes the congress will produce decisions that answer the nation's problems, especially in social, cultural, and community fields. (*)
