Francesca Albanese: Israeli Soldiers Vacationing in Indonesia Must Be Arrested
UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, stressed that the Indonesian government has a responsibility to arrest Israeli soldiers who come on holiday to the country. She made this point during a discussion with Amnesty International Indonesia in Jakarta, Wednesday evening (21/10/2026).
Albanese said that if any occupation soldiers flaunt their actions on social media after killing Palestinians, then travel to Indonesia, security forces should treat them as suspects and take legal steps. She emphasized that this is important to stop the normalization of apartheid crimes and genocide.
She also flagged potential hesitation from state authorities that could come up because of external pressure. Albanese encouraged civil society to keep an eye and put pressure on the government so that perpetrators of crimes against humanity can’t just freely enter Indonesian territory.
