Erros Djarot Releases Autobiography Volumes 2 and 3, Reveals Political Strategy for Megawati
Cultural figure and senior politician Erros Djarot launched the second and third volumes of his autobiography at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta, Sunday (9/8). The books recount his struggle in supporting Megawati Soekarnoputri to become the Chairperson of PDI and later Vice President during the 1999 MPR General Session, including lobbying with K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid, Amien Rais, and Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X for the Ciganjur Declaration.
The event was attended by Megawati Soekarnoputri, Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno, Anies Baswedan, Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono, former Minister of Manpower Theo L. Sambuaga, former KPK Chairman Abraham Samad, and a number of artists. Besides a music concert, a book review was held by former Tempo Editor-in-Chief Bambang Harymurti with speakers Laksamana Sukardi, former National Police Chief Suroyo Bimantoro, and Haidar Bagir.
Laksamana Sukardi described Erros as an important political conceptualizer and communicator in Indonesia's democratic journey. Suroyo Bimantoro shared Erros' role in lobbying him to remain neutral during the PDI Extraordinary Congress in 1993. Haidar Bagir praised Erros' writing style as not narcissistic, positioning himself as a storyteller.
The book continues from the first volume, which had already earned a MURI record as the first autobiography written with literary standards.
