Electric Motor Controversy in the Free Nutritious Meals Program: Budget Slashed, Purchase of Thousands of Units Already Done
Jakarta – The controversy over the procurement of electric motorcycles in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program remains in the spotlight. Finance Minister Purbaya emphasized that not all proposed procurements were approved in the budgeting process, including the contentious electric motorcycle purchase plan. Purbaya stated that some procurements were rejected and cut as part of the fiscal oversight mechanism to ensure efficiency and the precise targeting of state budget use.
However, this statement contradicts the explanation from the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, who revealed that thousands of electric motorcycle units had actually been purchased earlier. Those vehicles are currently still stored in distributor warehouses and have not been distributed. This situation raises public questions about the lack of synchronization between the budget approval process and the actual procurement on the ground.
Public policy observers assess this case reflects the importance of integration between government program planning and execution. The mismatch between budget decisions and implementation is considered potentially causing inefficiency and undermining public trust in state financial management. As of now, there has been no further explanation regarding the fate of those thousands of electric motorcycles. The government is expected to promptly provide a comprehensive clarification to address public doubts and ensure accountability in the use of the state budget.
