Don't Just Make Maulid a Ceremony, Use It as a Moment to Remember Allah and Follow the Prophet
ACEH BESAR - Celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW shouldn't be seen as just an annual tradition, but a chance to remember his birth and also deepen our love for the Prophet sent by Allah SWT to the whole universe. That message was delivered by Dr. Tgk. H. Syahminan, S.Ag., M.Ag., during a dawn lecture at Babul Maghfirah Mosque, Tanjong Seulamat village, Darussalam district, Aceh Besar, on Friday (4/9/2026).
Dr. Syahminan explained that Maulid is a moment to recall the Prophet's birth, and its observance should be filled with activities that boost faith and remind people of Allah SWT. "Maulid isn't a forbidden thing. In fact, it's highly encouraged. But the way it's done should involve things that remind us of Allah, meaning zikrullah," he said.
He stressed that Maulid activities should be filled with dhikr, salawat, reciting the Quran, and studying the Sirah Nabawiyah, so it doesn't stop at just gathering and enjoying food. Loving the Prophet SAW, he continued, must also be shown by following his sunnah, keeping good character, and applying the values of his teachings in daily life.
Dr. Syahminan, a lecturer at UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh and head of UPT Ma'had Al-Jami'ah and dormitory, hopes the Maulid moment can be a way to revive study circles, increase dhikr and Quran recitation, and strengthen the community's love for the Prophet SAW.
