DKPPP Jember Intensifies Slaughter Animal Inspections to Ensure Feasibility
The Food Security, Livestock and Fisheries Agency (DKPPP) of Jember Regency is intensifying inspections of slaughter animals at various selling points. This move aims to make sure the livestock are in healthy condition and meet Islamic requirements ahead of Eid al-Adha.
Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health at DKPPP Jember, Henry Kurniawan Mulyodiputro, said inspections have been going on for a week. So far, 32 sales spots for cows, goats, and sheep have been checked, and no sick animals or ones with infectious diseases have been found.
The checks include body temperature, pen suitability, and the minimum age of the sacrificial animals, including checking the shedding of milk teeth (poel). A few animals were found not meeting the age requirement, and traders were urged to separate them. Education was also given so that sick animals are quickly isolated.
This effort is expected to give a sense of safety and assurance to the public who want to perform the sacrifice worship, and to minimize worries when buying slaughter animals.
