DKPP Officers Find Sacrificial Animal with Skin Disease in Surabaya
Officers from Surabaya's Food Security and Agriculture Department (DKPP) found one sacrificial animal suspected of having scabies during their monitoring at sales stalls. The animal was immediately examined and isolated so it wouldn't be sold. The monitoring took place from May 18, 2026 to May 26, 2026, involving veterinary medicine students from UNAIR, UWK, the Vocational Faculty, as well as PDHI who were spread across 31 sub-districts.
Head of Surabaya DKPP Nanik Sukristina explained that the inspection covers administrative and animal health aspects. Traders must show an animal health certificate from the area of origin, and the team checks for potential diseases like foot and mouth disease, scabies, and other contagious illnesses. The sacrificial animals come from various regions in East Java and from outside the island.
DKPP also got support from PT Pelindo in the form of officer equipment. Aside from pre-sale inspections, there will be post-slaughter checks during Eid al-Adha involving the Environment Department and the Health Department to ensure public health is maintained.
