Delayed by war, Iran prepares a massive funeral for Ayatollah Khamenei

The Iranian government has begun preparing a huge funeral for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died on February 28, 2026, from a military attack. The state ceremony had been postponed for nearly three months because the war situation wasn’t really conducive. A special committee has been set up to coordinate the preparations, working together with state agencies, community organizations, and religious institutions. Head of Iran's Coordination Council, Mohsen Mahmoudi, said that all the technical and logistical needs are being prepared. The government expects a massive turnout, given Khamenei’s central role since 1989.
