Cruise Ship with Ministry of Defense Logo Deployed to Support Food Security
Businessman Haji Isam's expedition cruise ship J7 Explorer became a talking point after its hull was emblazoned with the logo of Indonesia's Ministry of Defense (Kemhan). Kemhan confirmed that the private vessel has been deployed to support operations and logistics for national strategic programs, especially accelerating food security in various regions of Indonesia.
Head of the Defense Information Bureau at Kemhan, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, explained that the logo placement indicates the fleet's operational activities are under government authority and assignment. "The ship is used to support activities and mobilization of food security program needs carried out in several regions of Indonesia, including Wanam, South Papua, as well as areas in Kalimantan and Sumatra," he said on Saturday (15/8).
The J7 Explorer, built in Batam in 2022, is 120 meters long and equipped with 25 cabins, a helipad, and large crew accommodation. The ship now functions as a mobile base to support a large-scale rice field development project in Merauke, South Papua, an area that is isolated and lacks land infrastructure.
Haji Isam stated that his involvement in this mega project is a form of responsibility in carrying out the state's mandate, not merely a business profit-loss calculation. To meet the rice field development target, around 2,000 excavators were brought in from China and experts from various countries were deployed. The project is expected to strengthen national food stocks and open new jobs for the people of Papua.
