Commission A of Surabaya DPRD Facilitates Deliberation to Resolve Land Dispute Between Church and Residents
Commission A of Surabaya DPRD held a hearing on Wednesday (17/6) bringing together the Bethany Indonesia Church and residents of RW 5 Menur Pumpungan, Sukolilo, to sort out the land issue. All parties agreed to take the deliberation route to find a solution that prioritizes the community’s interests and interfaith harmony.
Commission A Chair Yona Bagus Widyatmoko stated the shared commitment to find the best way forward by making sure the community’s rights are protected, religious activities can continue, and asset use follows regulations. Present at the meeting were Pastor Aswin Tanuseputro, RW 5 Head Bambang Wicaksono, Sukolilo Sub-district Head, Menur Pumpungan Village Head, the Legal and Cooperation Division Head of Surabaya City Government, and a representative from BPKAD.
The meeting resulted in an agreement that the Surabaya City Government will facilitate the processing of a Land Use Permit (IPT) for the SHGB No. 732 land, whose validity expires on July 8, 2026, with its designation remaining as a house of worship. Meanwhile, the SHGB No. 1076 land will be handed back to the City Government as a public and social facility (PSU) according to the original site plan, and its use will be discussed together.
Surabaya DPRD will keep overseeing this process so it benefits both residents and congregation, sticking to the principles of usefulness, propriety, tolerance, and maintaining interfaith harmony.
